Scholarship Opportunities:

The goal of the Southeast Texas Association of Black Journalists Scholarship is to provide assistance to Southeast Texas African American students in their pursuit of higher education in the fields of Communication and Journalism. 
            Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to choose to allocate their five hundred dollar award as payment towards attending the 2011 National Association of Black Journalists Convention in Philadelphia in August 2011.  Students will also have the option of applying the awarded funds to their tuition at Lamar University.
            Scholarships are presented to students with more than thirty credit hours at the beginning of the following fall semester.  The scholarship recipients will be named at the Southeast Texas Association of Black Journalists Luncheon to be held at the MCM Elegante Hotel on Thursday, April 7, 2011 in Beaumont, Texas.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this scholarship, college students must:

1. Have more than thirty credit hours at a college or university
2. Be enrolled as a Communication Major at Lamar University
3. Be a student of African American descent
4. Have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher
5. Present an unofficial transcript of completed course work
6. Present one letter of recommendation

 

ESSAY
Scholarship applicants must write a five hundred word essay on the following topic.

As a black journalist, how would you pave a way through communication, community and contribution?

Instructions: Complete this application form and attach your unofficial transcript, letter of recommendation and essay.  No application will be considered complete without the supporting documents.  Type or print legibly please.  All applications must be returned to a member of the Southeast Texas Association of Black Journalists prior to the deadline.

Scholarship applications and required materials must be turned into the Lamar University Television Studio, Theatre Annex Room 113 by 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2011. for application.
